Teil 1 Was ist das Bios und wie funktioniert es. (Bitte, unbedingt lesen)
Das Computer Bios ist die Schaltzentrale des Rechners, das nahe zu alle Funktionen verwaltet oder zumindest beeinflusst. Allerdings kommt der "normale" Anwender selten mit diesem Bios in Berührung und das ist gut so..
Wie wir bereits in der Bibel über den Menschen lesen können "der Geist ist willig, aber das Fleisch ist schwach" und wissen, dass wenn wir unser Leistungsvermögen des öfteren erheblich überschreiten , wir über kurz oder lang zusammenbrechen, .kann man vom Bios wohl sagen, dass es fast alles kann, aber das Leistungsvermögen des Rechners nicht übersteigen darf. Auch hier wird sonst der Rechner über kurz oder lang zusammenbrechen.
Um dies zu verstehen wollen wir uns ein mal ansehen wie ein Bios entsteht, 3 Gruppen von Menschen mit unterschiedlichen Interessen sind daran beteiligt.
Da sind erst einmal die Programmierer des Bios, die ausgehend von der Prozessorfamilie (386,486.Pentium usw.) und den Chipsätzen, den Wünschen der Mainboardhersteller und den technischen Möglichkeiten, ein Bios schaffen und an den Hersteller der Hauptplatine liefern.
Der Hersteller der Hauptplatinen entwickelt eine Platine und verändert das Bios entsprechend den Platinenmöglichkeiten., Sind zum Beispiel EIDE Anschlüsse vorhanden , so werden diese Möglichkeiten vorgesehen andernfalls weggelassen. Der Platinenhersteller weis jedoch nicht mit welchen Prozessor die Hauptplatine bestückt wird und welcher Speicher verwendet wird und auch nicht welche Peripherie der Rechner erhält. Er legt jedoch die "Bios" Werte fest und erstellt ein Handbuch, das zu der wichtigsten Unterlage eines Rechners wird, da ohne Handbuch eine Veränderung der Konfiguration, wie der Einbau eines neuen Prozessors, kaum möglich ist.

Abkürzung für "Asynchronous Transfer Mode". ATM bezeichnet eine Netzwerk-Technik, mit der Daten zum Transport in gleich große Pakete unterteilt werden und "asynchron" meint: Daten werden schneller vom Server zum Nutzer übertragen als umgekehrt. Die ATM-Pakete nutzen - im Gegensatz zur im Internet verwendeten TCP/IP-Technologie - auf ihrem Weg vom Sender zum Empfänger alle den gleichen Weg.

B.) BIOS FEATURES/ SETUP / ADVANCED SETUP
Die hier gespeicherten Einstellung wurden teilweise vom Mainboard Hersteller festgelegt. Andere können, wenn "Enabled" die Systemleistung verändern. Generell gesprochen beeinflussen sie die Funktionen Geschwindigkeit und den Bedienungskomfort.
Bei neuren Bios sind die hier enthaltene Angaben teilweise anders zusammengefasst so finden sich Informationen über Temperatur und Spannung unter Hardware Monitor oder PC Healt Status.
Einstellungen für den Prozessor können in der CPU PnP Setup Page stehen und die RAM- Einstellungen können in die Stufen Slow. Medium, Fast zusammengefasst sein. Für diese Aufteilungen und Zusammenfassungen gelten die folgenden Werte sinngemäß.
Assign IRQ für VGA Default: Enabled.
Soll für die VGA Karte ein Interupt IRQ reserviert werden, sollte auf Enabled bleiben.
